AccessLine offers enhanced communications and telephony services, enabling customers to customize and control all of their voice communications over the phone or the Web. AccessLine was acquired by Telanetix, Inc. in September 2007.
Bluemercury is a leader in supplying a carefully edited selection of high quality and innovative beauty and apothecary products through an integrated retail and direct service model. The company currently has 28 locations in Washington, DC, Philadelphia, New Jersey and Chicago. In June 2006, The Invus Group purchased a majority of shares in the company.
Downtown Music is an independent record label and music publishing company formed by two veteran music industry executives, formerly of Virgin Records and VH1. Based in New York, the company is backed by a number of music industry executives. Downtown currently has 22 artists under management, as well as a publishing company and RCRD.LBL, an ad-sponsored digital music label.
In 2003, SHP made an investment in data centers in Northern Virginia and Los Angeles, along with local real estate group DuPont Fabros, who managed the centers. The centers were leased out to companies such as Google and Yahoo. The 5 locations in the deal were rolled into a REIT which went public in October 2007. Their $1.2 billion IPO was the 6th largest REIT IPO ever.
Edgecast provides a ‘Content Delivery Network’ for video and music distribution over the web, providing higher quality and greater cost savings than any currently available technology.
Fidelity & Trust Bank is a full service community oriented financial institution, providing general commercial and consumer banking services to small and medium sized businesses, to professionals and to consumers in the Washington, DC area, as well as banking services to clients of Fidelity & Trust Mortgage. The company was formed by a local industry veteran. In December 2007, Fidelity announced it would merged with Eagle Bancorp Inc., a public company.
Frontier Strategy Group provides corporate strategic advisory services in emerging markets. FSG advises the world’s leading corporations on market entry strategies, mergers and acquisitions, operational issues, and government relations in emerging markets.
Funky Monkey Snacks produces healthy, freeze-dried fruit snacks using a proprietary process. Funky Monkey Snacks are 100% all natural, with no added sugar, artificial colors, flavors or preservatives.
IPWireless enables Mobile Broadband through their advanced wireless technology, with a vision of changing the way people around the world communicate, access the Internet and use a host of new applications at home, at the office, or on the road. In April 2007, IPWireless was acquired by NextWave for $235 million.
Matrics designed and manufactured radio frequency identification (RFID) tags and readers for supply chain management and real-time asset management. Matrics was acquired by RFID tools vendor Symbol Technologies in September 2004 for $325 million in cash.
NetMotion is a spin-off of WRQ Inc. and creates a wireless infrastructure solution that overcomes the barriers to wireless networking, making it possible for wireless networks to become ubiquitous. In June 2006, NetMotion merged with Padcom.
NextG Networks designs, deploys, and manages wireless infrastructure for mobile phone carriers.
ObjectVideo was founded in 1998 by world-renowned scientists and program managers from the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA). The Company is the leading developer of intelligent video surveillance software for physical security applications.
Oblix Inc. was a leading developer of identity-based security solutions for e-business networks. Oblix was acquired by Oracle in March 2005 for $92 million in cash.
SAI is a screen printing business that specializes in printing signs and point-of-purchase displays for large retail chains in the Mid-Atlantic region.
Spectrum K12 School Solutions provides software and services to allow K-12 schools to manage and administer Special Education, 504, ESL, Title I and At Risk Students. The products also help schools with Medicaid Recovery.
Spongecell intelligently manages calendar and event information through their web-based product.
Based in New York, New York, Strike develops and operates high-end bowling and entertainment centers. They now have five operating businesses in New York, Long Island, Miami, and Bethesda, Maryland. In August 2008, SHP exited this investment.
The Film Department is a new independent film finance, production, and foreign sales company. The Company is led by the management team responsible for 3 of 2007’s top independent pictures: “Crash,” “March of the Penguins,” and “Good Night, and Good Luck.”
